Dave
I am a third-generation Florida native and a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in communications/journalism. I’ve fished in almost every corner of Florida and in some of the most remote places in the world, all in pursuit of the best stories and the most incredible images. As a true Florida boy, it doesn’t matter if it swims in a ditch or an ocean, I like to catch it — the same holds true for chasing blue-water, big-game species of all types.
Traveling to and fishing in some of the best saltwater fishing holes in the world has allowed me to share my passion for the sea and its inhabitants through writing and photography. Beginning in 1992, I was the managing editor of both Sportfishing and Marlin magazines for seven years before becoming editor of Marlin. For the next 17 years, I was able to deliver the exciting and beautiful world of offshore big-game fishing to thousands of subscribers eight times a year.
I host Florida Insider Fishing Report and Texas Insider Fishing Reportalong with Capt. Rick and Brie and produce the Off the Deep End tips and new products segments at the Work Bench. When you add up my time at the magazines and these two TV shows, I’ve probably reviewed more saltwater fishing products than any other outdoor communicator.
In 2001, I founded and was director until 2016 of the renowned offshore fishing school, Marlin University, where I put my talent for teaching and my knowledge of the intricacies of big game sportfishing to good use.
My other loves include fishing Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for giant black marlin, trolling for numbers off the Coast of Venezuela or dipping a shiner into my favorite Central Florida lakes. During the winter and spring, you’ll most likely find me standing barefoot in the sand, chasing pompano somewhere between Cape Canaveral and Jupiter.
When I’m not on-set at the Work Bench, I eke out a living as a freelance outdoor writer/photographer and avid surf fisherman in my hometown of Orlando, Florida.
