150+ DAYS A YEAR ON LAKE FALCON
Best Bass Fishing, Hands Down
Hi, I’m Matt Reed––born and raised in Madisonville, Texas. Falcon International Reservoir, also known as Falcon Lake, is my favorite place to fish. It’s located on the Rio Grande, 40 miles southeast of Laredo, and in my opinion, is the best bass fishing spot in the country. Hands down! Guess that’s why I spend so much time there!
If you haven’t figured it out by now, my favorite species to tackle is largemouth bass. Why? I love the competition. It’s such a challenge to try to figure them out on a daily basis, and it’s thrilling and humbling at the same time to make a living in God’s awesome outdoors.
Professionally Speaking
I have fished my whole life and been guiding since 2006. Today, I’m a Bassmaster FLW Outdoors Elite Series Pro Angler offering professional guide services on Falcon Lake with multi-day trips to Lake Falcon, Sam Rayburn and Lake Fork. The name of my business is Falcon Lake Guide Service.
I’ve been entering tournaments since I was 12, starting at the Bass Club level and fished for 14 years at every level all the way to the Bassmaster Elite Series. I now fish the FLW Tour. To date, out of 149 tournaments, I have been in the money in 85.
On a Personal Note
Three things to know about me: (1) I’m easy going and always look at the bright side. (2) Being outdoors and sharing the thrill of fishing with others is my passion. (3) I’m extremely conservation-minded: Catch and release is a must!
When I’m not guiding, I like to golf, bow hunt deer and fish for fun. However, spending time with my daughter, Hilary, my son, Landon, and my three granddaughters is at the top of my list.
Thank you to my sponsors Nitro, Bass Pro Shops, Lowrance, Mercury, McCain Rods, Powerpole, TH Marine and Hayabusa Hooks. And thanks to Capt. Rick Murphy at RM Media. In 2016, when he asked if I’d like to file fishing reports on his show, Texas Insider Fishing Report, I said, sign me up! I mean, what’s not to like about sharing info on chasing and catching largemouth bass in my region. Each episode is geared to helping anglers improve their catch, and Rick is always energetic and looking for a positive direction to grow. It’s a winner all the way around.
