LIKE TO FEEL A BITE

Hello, my name is Mike McFarland — aka your Lake Fork Guide. Growing up fishing on the West coast of California gave me a reel love for fishing. Since then, I have mastered the techniques of conventional fishing as well as fly fishing and at one point in my career was an Orvis-endorsed fly casting instructor. I have a history of Bass fishing competition at the Pro-Am level with many top 10 finishes as well as an Angler of the Year title in 2010. I have also fished in a few official pro league tournaments like the FLW Series and FLW Tour.

It turns out my true passion is to coach, teach and take others fishing — especially for fresh water species. That’s why in 2013 I moved to world-famous Lake Fork and became a full-time guide. Now, I spend over 250 days a year on the water and love every minute of it. Sharing my life-long fishing experience on a daily basis at such a beautiful and prestigious fishery is a dream come true. The icing on the cake was when Captain Rick Murphy chose me to be the Upper Fresh reporting guide for Texas Insider Fishing Report. Being part of his team makes it possible for me to pass on my fishing knowledge to an even larger audience. I hope you enjoy our shows, and I look forward to the day I see you here at Lake Fork in northeast Texas.
